Unlike the NBA or the MLB, the NFL doesn’t really see many trades between teams as things in football don’t really work the same way, well, at least until now.
This past weekend the Philadelphia Eagles made an extremely risky gamble by trading their Pro Bowl quarterback and face of the franchise in Donovan McNabb to the division rivals Washington Redskins. Not only was this move risky as McNabb has been very successful for them, but the trade sends one of the best quarterbacks in the league to a team in their division in the NFC East.
The Washington Redskins went through an overhaul this offseason as they have fired head coach Jim Zorn brought in future hall of famer Mike Shanahan and traded for a franchise quarterback in Donovan McNabb. So far, all the moves have been in the right direction for the Redskins and their chances of competing are getting even better, but one question remains, at least for the time being, what to do with quarterback Jason Campbell.
Over the past couples of seasons the Washington Redskins have been a dreadful NFL franchise with almost no chance of competing for Super Bowl title or even an NFC East title, but Jason Campbell really hasn’t been to blame as he has seen no protection and the receiving core is one of the worst in the league with the exception of tight end Chris Cooley.
With that being said, this young quarterback with a big upside hasn’t had a chance to shine as he is always on his back and now he will almost certainly get pushed out of town with the trade of Donovan McNabb.
It is uncertain what teams are interested in Campbell, but with so many teams around the league in desperate need of a starting quarterback, the Redskins will be getting a lot of offers.
