The New York Jets are one of the most promising young teams in the NFL right now as they have arguably the league’s best defense, a passionate head coach in Rex Ryan that is liked by the entire team and the future face of the franchise in quarterback Mark Sanchez.
Even though they must get better on the offensive side of the football and they almost certainly will this season with the additions of running back LaDainian Tomlinson and wide receiver Santonio Holmes, the defense is top notch with arguably the best shutdown cornerback in the NFL in Darrelle Revis.
Last season Revis really made a name for himself in this league as Rex Ryan turned him into an All-Pro superstar at his position, but despite becoming arguably the best player in the NFL at cornerback, he will only get paid $1 million dollars next season.
Obviously, that means Revis is really underpaid as he can singlehandedly dominate an opposing offense and force quarterbacks to look off their best wide receivers. With that being said, Revis is in need of a raise and no one blames him for asking for one, but the New York Jets are buying into cornerbacks demands of being paid $15 million dollars annually. Not sure just yet how this will affect Jets NFL sports betting.
Even though most teams in the NFL like to get contract extensions done with their big-name players before the NFL season begins in September, sometimes that can’t always come to an agreement as players demands can be enormously high and ultimately cause a holdout situation.
Recently, the Jets denied Revis’ agent’s proposal for a new deal and Jets owner Woody Johnson has said that with almost no progress in getting a new deal done, he can see Darrelle Revis holding out for the entire 2010-2011 NFL season. This is going to be a great season for online sportsbooks, so start preparing for Week 1 now.
