Coming into the 2010 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos were owners of the 25th overall pick and even though most people anticipated head coach Josh McDaniels leaning in the direction of drafting a wide receiver after trading Pro Bowler Brandon Marshall to the Miami Dolphins, he surprised everyone by selecting Florida superstar Tim Tebow.
During this NFL offseason, the Denver Broncos have made some fairly interesting and questionable moves as they traded away arguably their best player and added two quarterbacks that could easily become the starter. We don’t think this has much effect with the odds set now and the online sportsbooks, but it could should the starting QB job change hands.
With the addition of Brady Quinn and rookie Tim Tebow behind Kyle Orton, many people have wondered why the Broncos would make such a drastic move and put so much pressure on their current starting quarterback, but regardless of public opinion, Josh McDaniels chose to make the decision he did and possibly usher in a new face of the franchise in Tim Tebow.
Much like most big-name rookies, there was a lot of speculation on when the Denver Broncos were going to sign their new quarterback and for how much. Despite talks of a possible holdout by the former Florida superstar, Tebow has agreed to a five-year deal worth about $11.25 million dollars.
This is a pretty decent size contract for a guy that was thought to be drafted in the second or third round, but another perk to this deal for Tebow is that he could make up to a maximum of $33 million dollars during this contract and $8.7 million of this deal is guaranteed.
With this much money being invested in a “backup” quarterback, I am betting that the he will get into the action much sooner than anticipated and will be the new face of the franchise as the Broncos brass will be doing everything within their power to get him behind center. Check out the best in NFL sports betting this upcoming season.
