The 2011 NCAA Tournament is down to just 16 teams or what it is better known as the Sweet 16. Even though there are still quite a few high seeds left in March Madness like Ohio State Buckeyes (1), Duke Blue Devils (1), Kansas Jayhawks (1), BYU Cougars (3) and UConn Huskies (3), there are two Cinderella stories brewing as the VCU Rams (11) and the Florida State Seminoles (10) are still alive and ready to shock the country by advancing to the Elite 8. Coming into last season’s NCAA Tournament, the Kansas Jayhawks (1) were arguably the team to beat during March Madness as most people believed they were the best team in college basketball and destined to win an NCAA title. Even though this was the consensus of most fans and college basketball analysts this turned out to be far from the truth as the Jayhawks were bounced in the second round by Northern Iowa. Sweet 16: Marquette Golden Eagles (11) vs. North Carolina Tar Heels (2) Fri. March 25, 2025 7:15 p.m. EST
A couple of years ago, head coach Roy Williams was able to make the North Carolina Tar Heels (2) one of the best college basketball teams in the country once again as he guide the Tar Heels to the National Championship and came away with the NCAA title. Continue Reading…
Sweet 16: Butler Bulldogs (8) vs. Wisconsin Badgers (4) Thurs. March 24, 2025 9:57 p.m. EST
Last season the biggest underdog throughout the entire NCAA Tournament was the Butler Bulldogs (8). With everyone doubting this Bulldogs squad, Butler (8) was able to defy the odds and make it all the way to the National Championship. Even though no one gave them a chance to compete against the Duke Blue Devils (1), this team took Coach K’s squad the distance and if that last second shot by Gordon Haywood went down, they would be the defending NCAA champions in this 2011 NCAA Tournament. Sweet 16: Duke Blue Devils (1) vs. Arizona Wildcats (5) Thurs. March 24, 2025 9:45 p.m. EST
Last season the Duke Blue Devils (1) were able to defy the odds and make it all the way to the National Championship to win yet another NCAA title under Coach K. This season the Blue Devils were thought to be a good team, but not a great team as many people believed they didn’t have what it takes to compete with the best of the best in college basketball. Sweet 16: BYU Cougars (3) vs. Florida Gators (2) Thurs. March 24, 2025 7:27 p.m. EST
Throughout the entire college basketball season and heading into the 2011 NCAA Tournament, the BYU Cougars (3) have become relevant once again with leading scorer Jimmer Fredette lighting up the scoreboard every single night. Even though the Cougars have received some criticism throughout the season as they aren’t that great a team without Fredette leading the way, but he might be talented enough to lead them to a National Championship this season. Sweet 16: UConn Huskies (3) vs. San Diego State Aztecs (2) Thurs. March 24, 2025 7:15 p.m. EST
Coming into the 2011 NCAA Tournament, the UConn Huskies (3) were arguably the most entertaining college basketball team in the country as they had won five straight games in dramatic fashion in order to win the Big East tournament. With Jim Calhoun trying to win another NCAA title and the Huskies having one of the best all-around players in the country in high scoring guard Kemba Walker, UConn (3) looks like they have a legitimate shot of going the distance in the Big Dance. The NCAA Tournament has become incredibly popular over the years due to the fact that anything can happen and with any team in the NCAA Tournament having a legitimate shot at winning the tournament. No matter how good teams may be or what kind of predictions that are made about the best teams in the country coming into this tournament, every team starts at zero and the upset watch begins.
Even though most people find it extremely difficult to predict upsets in the NCAA Tournament that is exactly why it is called March Madness. Last season the biggest underdog that continued to defy the odds throughout the entire 2010 NCAA Tournament was the Butler Bulldogs. Despite no one really giving this team any chance of competing with the best of the best in the tournament, the Bulldogs stayed strong and made it all the way to the National Championship to take on the Duke Blue Devils.
Coach K’s squad ultimately came out on top in the tournament and won yet another NCAA title, but the Bulldogs took the game down to the wire and almost sealed the deal with a last second shot from half court. Unfortunately, the shot came up just short, but it did prove that any team can compete in the NCAA Tournament.
This season the Butler Bulldogs have done it again as they have pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the 2011 NCAA Tournament with a win over the Pittsburgh Panthers in the third round. Even though the Panthers were considered to be one of the best all-around teams in this tournament and were given a number one seed, but they weren’t able to get the best of the eighth seed in the Butler Bulldogs.
Now the Butler Bulldogs will head-to-head the Sweet 16 for the second consecutive season and will face off against the Wisconsin Badgers.

Every single year in the NCAA Tournament, there is one or two teams that steal the spotlight as they’re able to defy the odds consistently and pull off upset after upset over the highest seeds in the tourney. This season the VCU Rams (11) is one of those teams as they have been unbelievable in the first three rounds of the 2011 NCAA Tournament as they have been arguably one of the most dominant teams during March Madness with three straight wins over the USC Trojans, Georgetown Hoyas and the Purdue Boilermakers. Illinois Fighting Illini (9) vs. Kansas Jayhawks (1) Sun. March 20, 2025 8:40 p.m. EST
Last season the Kansas Jayhawks (1) came into the NCAA Tournament as one of the favorites to go all the way to the Final Four and quite possibly win a National Championship once again in the Bill Self era. Unfortunately, that didn’t turn out to be the case as arguably the best college basketball team in the country fell to Northern Iowa in the second round and became the biggest disappointment in the tournament.
