We just had a scare earlier this week for US World Cup team member Jozy Altidore. Now, it seems that there is another scare in the works for an England team member and captain Rio Ferdinand.
England was participating in a training session on Thursday, which was their first session. Just a few minutes before the end of the session, Rio Ferdinand injured his left knee and was taken to the hospital immediately to have a scan of his knee completed. Apparently, the injury occurred with the England captain going into a tackle, which resulted in a bad fall.
Ferdinand received the role of England’s Captain after John Terry had the role taken from him due to a private life scandal. He has participated in a total of 78 games and assisted England in the 2002 as well as 2006 finals tournaments for the World Cup.
However, the grass is greener on the other side and Gareth Barry, midfielder for England, is recovering quite well from an injury that he sustained to his right ankle last month on May 5 when he was playing against Tottenham with Manchester City.
With this injury, it was not certain that the midfielder would make the cut for the final 23-man roster for England’s World Cup team. However, he underwent a medical examination and ended up making the cut. Of course, his status is day-to-day; however, he seems to be recovering well and getting stronger. As of right now, if he continues to recover well and be able to participate in training with the team, then it is likely that he’ll be able to participate in the opening game against the United States in less than 10 days.
