Coach Bob Bradley for the United States World Cup team made the final cuts to the 30-man roster last week and narrowed it down to the final 23-man roster.
Edson Buddle is one of the players that made the final cut and was in complete disbelief. If you would have asked him a couple months ago if he thought he would even be a candidate for the World Cup, he would have said no. Now, that the truth is right in front of him, it’s still hard for him to believe.
Buddle was a longshot by far to make the final cut, but he did it. Another longshot that made the final cut to the 23-man roster for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa was Robbie Findley. Buddle won Bradley over with his form and Findley won Bradley over with his speed. These two things were needed on the team due to the injury that kept Charlie Davies from making the cut. Herculez Gomez was another longshot that made the cut.
As for a few of the players that were expected to make the final cut were midfielders Clint Dempsey, Michael Bradley, as well as Landon Donovan. In addition, goalkeepers Tom Howard made the cut as expected as well. Another veteran that made the cut was midfielder DaMarcus Beasley who has been suffering from injuries but was given one last chance to prove that he had what it took to take the US team to the World Cup and to win the championship.
The seven players that did not make the cut included forwards Brian Ching as well as Eddie Johnson, midfielders Sacha Kljestan, Alejandro Bedoya, as well as Robbie Rogers, defenders Heath Pearce and Chad Marshall.
The final 23 players for the US roster have boarded a plan and have landed in South Africa. Of the 23 players, 17 of them are based throughout Europe, two from Mexican teams and four from Major League Soccer. The US team will open up against England for the 2010 FIFA World Cup on June 12, 2025 in South Africa. Get your bets placed early and get ready for the games!
