Taylor Hall was the overall number 1 draft pick of this year’s 2010 NHL Draft. Monday, he signed an entry-level contract that consists of three years with the Edmonton Oilers. The three-year contract that the forward signed consists of the maximum amount for per season base salary, which is $900,000.
In addition to the base salary that he will receive, it is possible for him to receive more than $3 million more per season if he meets certain performance bonus incentives that are listed within the entry-level contract as clauses.
Last season, Hall played for the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League where he scored a total of 40 goals and recorded 106 total points for the team. He then went on to have 17 goals as well as 35 points for the OHL playoff campaign. He went on to be rewarded this year for MVP for the Memorial Cup event for the second consecutive season. He is the very first player to receive the MVP reward two years in a row in the league’s history.
18-year-old Hall was selected first at the 2010 NHL Draft, which was held in Los Angeles, California, last month. Tomorrow will be a big day for Hall as he will set foot out onto the ice for the first time as an official Oilers and attend his first annual development camp of the Edmonton Oilers.
So, how do you think Hall will fit in with the Oilers? Do you think he’ll see significant progress at first, which will take him to the top very quickly? On the other hand, do you think that he’ll struggle as soon as he sets foot on the ice? What are your thoughts? I’m eager to see how he’ll do with the team this upcoming season.
