A few days ago, perennial All-Star point guard Deron Williams dropped a bombshell on the NBA as he announced his intentions to play for Besiktas in Turkey during the NBA lockout. This is pending of course and will be void if the NBA gets underway at the time it is supposed to, but with the way things are going right now it seems like a good possibility.
Not only has Deron Williams been the first superstar to sign a deal with a team overseas, but the league has run rampant with rumors of other big-name players doing the same if the NBA lockout continues. The players that have been mentioned as potentially considering playing overseas during the NBA lockout are Dwyane Wade (Miami Heat), Andrei Kirilenko (Utah Jazz), Amare Stoudemire (New York Knicks) and Carmelo Anthony (New York Knicks).
This list of players is impressive to say the least as no one saw this coming, but the biggest name to be mentioned as a possible player that might take his game overseas is five-time NBA champion Kobe Bryant of the Los Angeles Lakers.
There is no question that Kobe Bryant is loving his time off right now as he has a perfect opportunity to get his banged up body back to form. Despite the fact that Kobe needed this time off, the Black Mamba would consider heading overseas to play alongside Deron Williams in Turkey.
Obviously, Besiktas would love to get Kobe Bryant on their roster as he is arguably the most popular basketball player in the world today, but whether or not they can afford to pay what the two-time NBA Finals MVP might want for his time remains to be seen.
It will be interesting to see how things pan out in the coming months as I am sure we will hear more about Kobe Bryant and other superstars willing to play overseas.
