After winning their first NBA title in franchise history, the Dallas Mavericks were thought to sit back and enjoy the moment of being the NBA’s top dogs, but that was far from the case as Mark Cuban and company pulled off one of the best trade in the 2011 NBA draft. There is no question that the Dallas Mavericks aren’t getting any younger and might only have a few good years left in the Dirk Nowitzki era, but that hasn’t stopped them from being content with their current roster as they have now brought in yet another lethal outside shooter in Rudy Fernandez.
With Fernandez coming to Dallas, the Mavs have gone younger and become all that much more dangerous on the perimeter, but just about a week after making the trade for the Spanish import, his home country came a calling.
With the NBA lockout officially underway and a lot of uncertainty moving forward about the upcoming NBA regular season, quite a few players around the league have started to consider other options like playing overseas for a year. This is something that the players don’t particularly want to do and their teams definitely don’t want them to do that, but the fact is that some players need to continue to make money in order to stay afloat.
So after the NBA locked out its players, teams like Real Madrid started to take interest in some of the players around the league that would consider playing overseas. The one player Real Madrid has targeted is Rudy Fernandez.
Reportedly, Real Madrid offered Rudy Fernandez $26.1 million dollars over the next six years to play back in his home country of Spain. This is a lucrative offer and something that must have been hard to pass up, but that is exactly what Fernandez did as he decided to decline the offer and keep his future with the Dallas Mavericks intact moving forward.
