There really is not surprise when it comes to the terms of the agreement between Patrick Patterson and the Houston Rockets since it is all part of the NBA collective bargaining rules for first round NBA draft picks.
However, Patterson felt just as important and different once he signed those papers – but in a good way. Patterson knew he was part of the team, participating in summer league games as well as two-a-days, but signing the contract made the whole thing reality.
Patterson was the 14th overall NBA draft pick this year by the Houston Rockets. For the next two seasons, he is guaranteed approximately $3.1 million, which is the standard for NBA first round draft picks. The standard also includes 2 one-year options, which is also noted in Patterson’s contract with the Rockets.
Patterson was one of five from Kentucky that were chosen in the first round of the 2010 NBA Draft, which made history because it was the very first time ever that five players from the identical school were selected within the first round of the draft. In his 97 starts and career games with Kentucky, Patterson posted averaged of 16.1 points as well as 8.2 rebounds per game.
Patterson made four appearances with the Rockets in Las Vegas over the summer. The 6-foot-9 forward, originally from Kentucky, made 17 of his 38 attempted shots on Friday in one of the summer league games and posted an average of 6.5 rebounds and 10 points. Not too bad for a rookie especially since this rookie is making his way to making the Rockets final and active 12-man roster.
This was all a great ending even though the Rockets did not win their summer league game yesterday.
