Friday, the Los Angeles Lakers announced that Kobe Bryant has previously had arthroscopic surgery done on his right knee. The surgery was performed just last week and went very well. However, the good news is that he will be fully recovered and ready to return to training camp with the Lakers when it opens up September 25 and is currently taking rehabilitation sessions for his knee.
31-year-old Bryant had a significant amount of trouble with his injured right knee throughout last season after injuring it. He sat out several of the regular season games back in April but then had it drained of fluid during the early start of the playoffs in order to play with his team.
Despite facing several different injuries last season – broken finger, knee problems, as well as back spasms – he successfully assisted the Los Angeles Lakers to their second straight consecutive title, which they were able to successfully beat out the Boston Celtics in a 4-3 series win.
There is still another injury that concerns many fans and bettors – Bryant’s right index finger. The two-time consecutive MVP of the NBA Finals broke it late in the year last year, which obstructed his overall shot throughout the entire NBA season. No word on whether he’ll have this finger repaired with surgery or not. It’s just a matter of waiting to see.
The Lakers are definitely one of the teams to beat this upcoming 2010-2011 NBA season. As compared to last season, their players have a lot more playing ability, skill, and experience, which has added depth to the team overall, especially with the signing of three strong players – Matt Barnes, Theo Ratliff, and Steve Blake.
