The Los Angeles Lakers have won their second straight NBA title with a thrilling game seven victory over their bitter rivals in the Boston Celtics. Even though the Lakers dominated throughout the majority of the playoffs, they were seriously tested by the Celtics in the NBA Finals and won arguably their toughest NBA title in recent memory. This was a great series.

This second consecutive NBA title for the Los Angeles Lakers was the fifth for Kobe Bryant and the 11^th for head coach Phil Jackson (six with the Chicago Bulls, five with the Los Angeles Lakers). Last season the Zen Master broke the record for most NBA title won by a head coach with 10 beating out the Boston Celtics Red Auerbach and now Jackson has distanced himself even more from Red with another NBA title.

Needless to say, Phil Jackson no longer has anything else to prove as he is arguably the best and most successful NBA head coach of all-time. The question now is whether or not Jackson will want to continue to try and win more NBA titles with Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers as his contract is up and he is said to take a serious pay cut next season if he chooses to stay.

Supposedly, the reason for the pay cut given by Lakers owner Jerry Buss is that they need the money and can no longer afford to pay Phil Jackson $12+ million a season. There is no doubt that the Zen Master is without a doubt worth that much per season, but Buss has been open about his intentions to slash Jackson’s contract in half if he wants to stay.

Reportedly, after the Lakers won their second straight NBA title on Thursday night, Phil Jackson said he will make a decision about his future on or before June 27^th.
