The Los Angeles Lakers are coming off their second straight NBA title and absolutely loving the much needed time off this summer, but there is one player that is still licking his wounds as he limped his way into the NBA offseason.
Even though Andrew Bynum was mentioned in a few trade scenarios throughout the regular season, playoffs and into the offseason, the young center is still a member of the Los Angeles Lakers for the time being, but he is dealing with a knee injury that will require surgery once again.
Reportedly, the knee injury is not serious enough to where he had to rush to the hospital after the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Boston Celtics in game seven of the NBA Finals, but it is serious enough to require attention.
Initially, Bynum was scheduled to have surgery on his right knee on July 18th to repair a meniscus tear, but now the two-time NBA champion will have that date pushed back to July 28th instead.
Obviously, at this point in time, Bynum’s surgery shouldn’t affect his playing status next season, but that all depends on his recover and whether his right knee reacts well to treatment.
Even though Andrew Bynum brings a lot of value to this championship Lakers squad, many people have started to talk about the big kid finally getting his walking papers via trade as he hasn’t been able to stay healthy when the team needs him the most; the playoffs. Bodog, one of the leading USA online sportsbooks and a popular eWalletXpress Sportsbook, has the Lakers at 11/4 to win the 2011 NBA Championship, so Bynum being healthy could be a key factor.
There was a lot of speculation surrounding a possible trade which would have involved Andrew Bynum and one or two players in exchange for All-Star forward Chris Bosh from the Toronto Raptors. This obviously didn’t happen, but the Lakers were seriously considering the move and no one could blame them.
