The 2010 NBA offseason is almost over in terms of big-name players signing new contracts and officially taking themselves off the free agent market, but the majority of the league already scrambling to figure out a way to compete against the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers and the revamped Miami Heat, next year’s offseason might be just as significant as another big three could potentially be on the horizon.
This summer the New York Knicks did everything within their power to try and bring in some big-name talent like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and or Chris Bosh. Obviously, they failed as all three of these superstars ended up signing with the Miami Heat and creating the league’s newest superpower, but they were able to get their hands on one of the best big men in the game in the form of Amare Stoudemire. This will not help them out with the online sportsbooks for the 2011 NBA futures betting.
Even though Stoudemire was probably not their first priority, the Knicks will be considerably better next season with the versatile forward in the paint in the Big Apple, but the lack of talent around him will be something that needs to be addressed.
The one option that seems to be getting a lot of talk lately is the possibility of another big three in New York. The three superstars would consist of All-Stars Chris Paul, Carmelo Anthony and of course Amare Stoudemire.
This is a stretch to say the least as Paul would have to come via trade and Anthony would have to sign a free agent deal after next season, but with the Miami Heat being able to sign three players like LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, anything is possible from here on out.
Reportedly, despite the big three talk in New York getting a lot of attention, especially after Carmelo Anthony’s wedding in New York recently where all three players were in attendance, Denver Nuggets point guard Chauncey Billups thinks his teammate will sign the proposed contract extension.
The current deal being offered to Carmelo Anthony is worth about $65 million dollars over the next three years. Not a bad deal, but definitely leaves things wide open as the superstar forward has yet to sign it or make any indication that he will do so.
