With all eyes on Dwyane Wade, Amare Stoudemire, Chris Bosh and LeBron James, the other big-name free agents have flown somewhat under the radar and gone unnoticed.
The one player that was thought to be a perfect complimentary player to LeBron or D-Wade next season was the Utah Jazz forward Carlos Boozer. Even though Stoudemire and Bosh were by far the more desired All-Star forwards in this free agent market, Boozer could have been the deciding factor for some of the big-name players to make the move to a different team.
Despite the Chicago Bulls not getting much play in the free agent market so far as they have missed out on Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, Joe Johnson and Amare Stoudemire, they were able to get their hands on Carlos Boozer and sign him to a five-year deal for $80 million dollars.
The Chicago Bulls have had their sights on bigger fish this summer like LeBron James and Dwyane Wade to become the new face of the franchise, but I believe that signing Carlos Boozer was a step in the right direction.
The problem the Bulls will have from here on out will be whether or not they can convince any other big name free agents to come to Chicago to play alongside Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer. It is not that the Bulls don’t have the money to pay players of LeBron James caliber, they do, but it seems that no one wants to play in Michael Jordan’s shadow in the windy city.
I can’t say I blame LeBron and D-Wade for not wanting to play in MJ’s shadow, but the Chicago Bulls will have to do something if King James doesn’t move his throne to Chicago on Thursday. My guess is they go after Ray Allen and maybe make some trades before next season.
