Brad Lidge was just announced as the replacement for Ryan Madson earlier this month; however, after taking over, he has suffered an injury of his own it appears. Monday, he complained of stiffness in his right elbow at which time he was scheduled to be sent back to Philadelphia so that a doctor could do a thorough examination of his right elbow.
33-year-old Lidge went to the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital this morning to undergo a MRI. The MRI results show that there has been no structural damage to Lidge’s right elbow. The MRI also provided information relating to his surgery that he had last November. He had a flexor pronator surgery last year and the MRI shows that it is healing just as it should, which is great news.
Although it isn’t necessarily terrible news, the MRI did show some inflammation within the elbow joint lining. According to media reports, his status is currently on a day-to-day basis.
Currently, Brad Lidge, closer for the Philadelphia Phillies, who started this year’s MLB season on the disabled list with Ryan Madson in his place, is 0-0 with a 2.70 ERA with only one save in his four appearances this MLB season.
Now Lidge is unavailable due to his day-to-day status and has not yet been placed on the disabled list. He is also scheduled to join the team this Friday for the team’s series in Milwaukee but will not likely pitch. Madson is also unavailable at this time due to a toe injury with surgery required, it seems that the Philadelphia Phillies have turned to Jose Contreras to step in as the team’s closer until Lidge is ready to get back into the game.
