Jair Jurrjens, starter for the Atlanta Braves, left the game against the St. Louis Cardinals today after a left hamstring strain in the first inning of the game. Coach wanting to go ahead and take Jurrjens out of the game to prevent any further injury to his hamstring, especially since he did make a mention of it just a few days ago during conditioning sprints.
Prior to his injury in the first inning, Jurrjens was able to throw successful pitches and retire two batters right off the bat. Matt Holliday was hit with a pitch and then a single was allowed for Colby Rasmus. A three-run homer run was given to Cardinals’ third baseman rookie David Freese. This three-run homer was the third consecutive start for Jurrjens where he allowed three runs.
Jurrjens was replaced on the mound for the start of the second inning of the MLB game between the Atlanta Braves and the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday by Kris Medlen.
In addition to the hamstring injury to Jurrjens that took him out of the game, Yunel Escobar left the game later in the seventh inning of the game with an injury to his groin. Escobar feels that he can return to the field in just a few days, but we will see.
Thursday’s game ended up being a loss for the Atlanta Braves losing to the St. Louis Cardinals 10-4.
Going into the game Thursday, the Braves have lost eight games in a row, which has now been made nine. Time to step it up Atlanta. What is going on? Whatever it is, if they plan to make it far this season they need to step it up a few notches and get their heads in the game - literally!
