There is no love lost between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens as these to AFC North division rivals clearly don’t like each other and that definitely showed this weekend as things got heated in this playoff matchup.
Not only were these two teams drooling at the opportunity to get another shot at one another, but with an AFC Championship bid on the line, this game was huge to say the least.
Obviously, the one thing that everyone was looking at coming into this game between these two bitter rivals was which defense was going to come out on top. The Steelers came into this game with the best run defense in the league and the Ravens weren’t far behind them with the fifth best run defense in the NFL, but both of these teams also had the ability to hurt opposing defenses through the air.
Despite having a Pro Bowl caliber running back in Ray Rice coming out of the backfield, the Baltimore Ravens decided to attack the Pittsburgh Steelers with quarterback Joe Flacco and their passing game.
Even though Flacco was pretty much on target with his 30 passing attempts, the up and coming quarterback only completed 16 passes as receivers Anquan Boldin and T.J. Houshmandzadeh dropped a lot of crucial passes that could have easily turned the game around.
With Boldin and T.J. failing to live up their Pro Bowl caliber status, the Baltimore Ravens offense was flat to say the least and ultimately was unable to keep up with Ben Roethlisberger and company.
Big Ben on the other hand had another game to remember as he threw for 226 yards, two touchdowns and finished with a passer rating of 101.8. These might not be eye popping numbers for the two-time Super Bowl champion, but it was enough to get the job done and lock up a spot in the AFC Championship Game against the New York Jets next weekend at Heinz Field.
