Controversial NFL owner Al Davis has made yet another questionable move with a rookie quarterback as he has drafted Ohio State’s Terrell Pryor in the third round of the NFL supplemental draft. This might ultimately turn out to be a great move for the Oakland Raiders as they have been in desperate need of a solid starting quarterback, but it appears that the Raiders drafted Pryor with the intention of making him a wide receiver.
As of right now, the Oakland Raiders intend to start Jason Campbell under center in Week 1 against the division rival Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football and for good reason as he is the best quarterback in Oakland at this point in time. That could quickly change after Week 5 though if Campbell starts to struggle and Pryor is available.
The Oakland Raiders may have drafted Terrell Pryor with the intent on playing him at wide receiver, but depending on the state of the team six weeks into the season when his suspension is lifted, I could see new head coach Hue Jackson giving the former Ohio State Buckeye a shot under center.
Reportedly, Terrell Pryor can expect a four-year deal from the Oakland Raiders worth about $2.36 million dollars. Along with the four-year deal, Pryor would get a signing bonus of about $591,000.
With the selection of Terrell Pryor, the Oakland Raiders won’t be able to pick any players in the second, third and fourth rounds of the 2012 NFL draft. This is quite the sacrifice for an unproven player that could turn out to be the next coming of JaMarcus Russell.
Hopefully, this promising young athlete out of Ohio State is exactly what the Oakland Raiders are looking for in terms of the missing piece of the puzzle in order to get back into the playoffs, but we won’t know anything until he gets on the field in Week 6.
