New York Jets @ New England Patriots Sun. Oct. 9, 2011 4:15 p.m. EST
Every single season the AFC East division seems to come down to just two teams with the New England Patriots and the New York Jets battling it out for the division title. This season things have changed a bit with the Buffalo Bills becoming force to be reckoned with, but it would be safe to say that either the Patriots or the Jets will win the division title at season’s end.
In Week 5, the arch rivalry between the Jets and the Patriots will get back underway with Tom Brady and company hosting Rex Ryan’s boys at Foxbourgh this Sunday. This matchup comes at an interesting time as both the Patriots and the Jets are struggling with parts of their game. The Jets are coming off their second straight loss after losing to Rex Ryan’s former team in the Baltimore Ravens. This game was full of mistakes by the Jets’ offense with quarterback Mark Sanchez getting beaten up all day long against the Ravens’ lockdown defense.
The New England Patriots on the other hand are coming off a bounce back win over the vastly improved Oakland Raiders. Even though the Raiders are much better football team this season in comparison to last season, the Patriots were able to take the down with relative ease, but still showed some serious flaws on the defensive side of the football.
Tom Brady may be on the verge of another MVP caliber season and possibly on his way to another chance to win a Super Bowl, but the Patriots’ defense is awful this year and might be their undoing once again. This week the Jets will look to expose the Patriots on defense by lighting up the scoreboard, but Bill Belichick’s boys are already heavily to come out on top in this AFC East division showdown with a -9 point spread in their favor.
Take the Jets at +9.
