Detroit Lions @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sun. Sept. 11, 2011 1 p.m. EST
With the NFL season officially underway, all eyes will be on the elite teams in the league that have a shot of contending for a Super Bowl title, but there will be some teams around the league that will almost certainly be turning heads all season long as they go from perennial bottom feeders to perennial playoff teams.
The Detroit Lions and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will definitely two teams to keep an eye on this season as they are starting to come into their own. Last season the Bucs were able to defy the odds by dominating the competition with one of the most promising young quarterbacks in the league leading the way in Josh Freeman. Even though they were unable to win the NFC South division title or make it into the playoffs, the Bucs won 10 games last year and have become a force to be reckoned with in the NFC Conference.
As for the Detroit Lions, last season was a bit of a disappointment, but only because injuries prevented them from showing their true potential. This year, the Lions will enter the NFL regular season healthy and ready to prove that they are a playoff contender and a team on the rise in the NFL.
With up-and-coming Matthew Stafford back healthy and looking very good during the NFL preseason, the Detroit Lions will have high hopes of this season, but they will be going up against a team that is equally hunger and equally talented in the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 1.
The smart choice would be to pick the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to win this Week 1 showdown, but the Detroit Lions might be able to pull off the upset.
