As you probably know, Brett Favre re-joined the Minnesota Vikings just a couple weeks ago and at age 40, he was uncertain whether his weak and somewhat unstable left ankle would be able to stand up to this 2010 NFL season, which would be his 20th, for him to perform successfully throughout the entire football season.
Reports have now surfaced that the quarterback admitted to receiving injections in his left ankle. He received an injection Saturday following the preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks. It was just several months ago, in May, that Favre had a third surgery on his ankle in order to remove particles. The shot is thus meant to help relieve pressure that he may be feeling in his ankle.
Favre says that he honestly needs more playing time during this preseason, which is coming to an end shortly. The Minnesota Vikings will have a preseason game this Thursday in which they will compete against the Denver Broncos. However, despite the 40-year-old quarterback feeling as if he needs more playing time this Thursday to truly see how he can perform on his ailing ankle, Head Coach Brad Childress has not made any official comments as to how much playing time his starters, including Favre, will see this coming Thursday against the Broncos.
At this time, there isn’t any concern of Favre missing the regular season opener on September 9 where the Minnesota Vikings will play against the New Orleans Saints in an away game in New Orleans.
How do you think Favre will perform this year – will the injections help keep his able operating properly in order to play well? Will he able to maintain his starting position as quarterback with his surgically repaired and now ailing ankle or will his last NFL season be cut short?
