Over the past half decade or so, no team in the NFL has been more of a disappointment than the Oakland Raiders. No matter what this storied NFL franchise tries to do through the NFL Draft, free agency or via trade, the Oakland Raiders always seem to make the wrong decision and have ultimately become one of the worst teams in the league.

Back in 2003, the Raiders were arguably the best team in the AFC Conference as they were able to get all the way to the Super Bowl and seemed to be bound for their first Super Bowl title in quite some time, but despite having one of the best offenses in the NFL, former head coach Jon Gruden and the defensive minded Tampa Bay Buccaneers absolutely dominated Al Davis’ Oakland Raiders 48-21.

Ever since that massacre in the Super Bowl, the Oakland Raiders have gone from bad to worse and quickly became the laughing stock of the NFL.

In 2007, the Oakland Raiders had the first overall pick in the NFL Draft and with it selected a promising young quarterback out of LSU in JaMarcus Russell. With a big body and a cannon for an arm, the Raiders thought they had gotten a hybrid quarterback somewhat like Ben Roesthlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Unfortunately, the team only got progressively worse with Russell behind center and ultimately ended up cutting him three years later.

Now Russell is a free agent with an NFL career seriously in doubt as no team wants to touch him with a ten foot pole. As if his career hadn’t taken a turn for the worst after being cut by the Raiders, Russell was arrested on possession of codeine syrup shortly thereafter.

Reportedly, the former Oakland Raiders quarterback has pleaded not guilty to the felony drug charge. Even though he might be able to beat this rap, maybe, his future in the NFL is seriously in doubt these days as he may never play another down in the league.
