San Diego Chargers @ Kansas City Chiefs Mon. Sept. 13th 10:15pm EST
The San Diego Chargers and the Kansas City Chiefs are two teams in the AFC West division heading in completely different directions as Norv Turner and company have their sights set on competing for a Super Bowl and the Chiefs just want to finish the season with a winning record.
The odds on this game at DSI Diamond Sportsbook have the Chargers as 4.5 point favorites. Other online sportsbook like Bodog have the spread set at -5 for the Saints.
Over the past half decade or so, the San Diego Chargers have absolutely dominated the AFC West division as they have won five division titles in the last six years, but even though they might be one year older this team continues to make improvements that keep them in Super Bowl title contention.
This season they have brought in rookie running back Ryan Matthews (Fresno State) and despite having to fill the shoes of former NFL MVP LaDainian Tomlinson (New York Jets), head coach Norv Turner is supremely confident in his new number one running back as he has high expectations for this young kid.
The one player that the San Diego Chargers will miss to start the season is Pro Bowl wide receiver Vincent Jackson who will be serving a suspension and might continue to hold out for a new contract after his suspension is up.
Despite missing Jackson as their best downfield threat, the Chargers do have a back plan in wide receiver Malcolm Floyd. He may not be a Pro Bowl caliber player like Jackson, but the Chargers believe he can get the job done and put up good numbers this season.
As of the Kansas City Chiefs, the biggest upgrade they made this season was also through the 2010 NFL Draft as they picked up arguably the best defensive player in college football in safety Eric Berry (Tennessee).
Even with an improved defense though, the Chiefs will most likely have no chance to pull off the upset over the Chargers in this Monday Night Football matchup.
