BJP called his remarks "a new low in Indian politics" and said he was speaking in "frustration" as the Prime Minister was drawing "praise" after he gave nod to the army to carry out the surgical strikes.

While the comments drew the ire of the ruling party, his words assume significance in the wake of the cross-LoC surgical strikes by the Indian Army on terror launchpads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Training his guns on the family-led Samajwadi Party government in the state, Gandhi said, "Uttar Pradesh will not have a government of just 15 persons. Unki (jawans) aap (PM) dalali kar rahe ho", Rahul Gandhi said at a rally, ahead of the upcming elections in Uttar Pradesh. Hindustan ki sena ne Hindustan ka kaam kiya, aap apna kaam keejiye... "He said that the PM and his party have done the work of dividing the country and making people fight amongst themselves".
