Washington Huskies (7) vs. North Carolina Tar Heels (2) Sun. March 20, 2025 12:15 p.m. EST
Last season the North Carolina Tar Heels (2) were the defending NCAA champions and looking to do what many college basketball programs haven’t able to do in the past by repeating as NCAA champions. Even though things look promising for Roy Williams’ squad, they just couldn’t get it together throughout the college basketball regular season and ultimately couldn’t compete with the best of the best like they did the season before.
Fortunately, despite being somewhat of a joke around the country, Roy Williams was able to lead his team to a NIT title. Obviously, that is pale in comparison to an NCAA title, but still somewhat impressive for the kind of talent he had on his team.
This season the North Carolina Tar Heels (2) have seen their team reemerge as one of the best college basketball teams in the country with a new sense of purpose and motivation. Even though they weren’t able to wrap up a number one seed in one of the four regions of the 2011 NCAA Tournament, they still grabbed a second seed in the East Region just below the number one seeded Ohio State Buckeyes (1).
Now that their first win is in the bag after beating the Long Island Blackbirds in their first matchup of the 2011 NCAA Tournament, the North Carolina Tar Heels (2) will take on the Washington Huskies (7) in the third round of the tournament for chance to advance to Sweet 16.
As right now, the North Carolina Tar Heels (2) are favored to win this third-round matchup with a -4 point spread. The Washington Huskies (7) will definitely be a tough team to face for Roy Williams and company, but this team is playing really well right now and should be up to the task as they will advance.
