This past Sunday the United States national basketball team or Team USA as it is better known, were given a run for their money when they went up against Ricky Rubio’s Spanish squad.
Even though the Americans came out on top 86-85, after Kevin Durant saved the day with a blocked shot at the buzzer, it would be safe to say that Spain basically outplayed them throughout the entire game as some of Team USA’s players really struggled, especially late in the game when Spain was threatening to come away with the win.
Fortunately, despite being outplayed in my opinion, Team USA came out with the victory and restored faith that they might be able to come out on top in the 2010 FIBA World Championship.
With the 2010 FIBA World Championship just four days away with a start date of August 28th, head coach Mike Krzyzewski or Coach K as he is known at Duke University has to cut down the roster to just 12 players before the first game of the tournament.
Even though Coach K had still yet to make a decision on which player would be cut and sent back to the states, the Boston Celtics All-Star point guard Rajon Rondo felt that it would be him after he didn’t play a single minute against Spain on Friday.
As a result of Rondo’s belief that he was going to be the odd man out when Coach K had to make his final decision, the Celtics floor general decided he would withdraw from the team and get back home to deal with some family issues that he had been having recently.
After Rondo left the team on Tuesday, the 12-man final roster is as follows:
Guards: Kevin Durant, Derrick Rose, Stephen Curry, Eric Gordon, Chauncey Billups, Andre Iguodala, Russell Westbrook
Forwards: Danny Granger, Lamar Odom, Rudy Gay, Kevin Love
Center: Tyson Chandler
