The Boston Celtics are still licking their wounds after losing game seven of the NBA Finals to their archrivals in the Los Angeles Lakers, but even though the loss to the Lakers was a hard thing to swallow, they must move on and they have done just that by already making some key moves for next season.
The three biggest priorities for the Boston Celtics heading into the offseason was re-signing Paul Pierce, Ray Allen and convincing head coach Doc Rivers to come back for at least one more year.
Fortunately for the Celtics, all three of these priorities have been taken care of as Paul Pierce agreed to a new deal of four years and $61 million dollars, Ray Allen decided to come back for $20 million over two years and Doc Rivers has agreed to return next season.
Even though these three moves were huge for Boston, the one thing the team needs to upgrade right now is the frontcourt as the Celtics will be without Rasheed Wallace (retirement) and Kendrick Perkins (knee injury, six months) next season.
With these huge holes in the paint, the Boston Celtics needed to make a move in the offseason and that they have by signing former All-Star Jermaine O’Neal.
Much like all the veterans the Boston Celtics have signed over the years, O’Neal is on the downside of his career and no longer the dominant force he used to be, but still a player with great value and a perfect addition to this team.
Last season Jermaine O’Neal averaged 13.6 points and 6.9 rebounds per game for the Miami Heat in 70 games. Even though those are decent numbers throughout the regular season, O’Neal struggled in the postseason against the Celtics with just 4.2 points per game. With the heat possibly getting both Wade and Bosh to sign, there’s a good chance the sports betting sites will have the heat as favorites.
