The Texas Rangers lead the ALCS 2-1 over the New York Yankees. They really need this third win tonight and if they can secure it, they’ll only need one more to win the ALCS. The Rangers are going into the game with the exact lineup as they had in Game 3.
The Rangers will send Tommy Hunter to the mound for Game 4 - his last Game 4 in the ALDS was a 5-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays in which he allowed three runs in four frames; therefore, leaving him in the postseason as 0-1 with an ERA of 4.50. In September, he made a single start against New York allowing two runs over five innings.
Hunter also set two records for the Rangers this year - the first starter to have at least seven wins and no defeats at his home ballpark in a season. In his 11 home starts this year, Hunter was 7-0 with an ERA of 3.06. Going further, the right-hander also recorded the best winning percentage in franchise history for the Rangers of any starting pitcher - he finished 13-4 and started the year off right with eight consecutive wins.
The Yankees will counter with A.J. Burnett who will be starting for the very first time since October 2. He has a lot to prove in this game after a very disappointing year. This year against the Rangers, Burnett was 1-0 with an ERA of 2.50 for his three starts. Earlier in April, Hunter able to go seven innings with no scores and seven strikeouts, which resulted in a 7-3 win for the Yankees. For the season, the right-hander was 10-15 with an ERA of 5.26. His absence worries me a bit but sometimes an absence is just what you need to get back into the game.
Regardless, I think the Rangers realize how close they are to making the World Series and are going to give it their all. My money is on Texas.
