San Francisco 49ers @ San Diego Chargers Thurs. Dec. 16^th 2010 8:20pm EST

In the last Thursday game of the regular season, the San Francisco 49ers will head to San Diego to take on the Chargers who are fighting for their playoff lives. Not only will the 49ers be taking on a desperate Chargers team looking to come out on top of the AFC West division, but they will be -8.5 underdogs and trying to top the St. Louis Rams in their NFC West division.

Winning the NFC West division is a bit of a long shot for the 49ers as they are a few games out of first place, but coming off perhaps their biggest win of the season over the 2^nd place Seattle Seahawks (40-21) and playing the 1^st place St. Louis Rams one more time this season, Mike Singletary’s squad still has an opportunity to get into the postseason. If Rivers can deliver like he is capable of, and avoid the two bad games he had at the end of November, this NFL football betting matchup should be good.

The San Diego Chargers on the other hand have made their chances of winning the AFC West division much better after last week’s domination of the AFC West division-leading Kansas City Chiefs (31-0), but they might have their work cut out for them this weekend defending their home field against a resurgent San Francisco 49ers team that still have a slight chance of making the playoffs.

As of right now, the San Diego Chargers are -8.5 point favorites to get the win over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 15, but I think that spread is a little miss leading as the 49ers are more than capable of making a game of it this weekend.

In my opinion, the safe bet would be to take the 49ers at +8.5 in this one as they will make this game much closer than predicted.
