Last season was somewhat of a breakout year for the Baltimore Ravens as the up-and-coming NFL franchise was able to dominate the arch division rival Pittsburgh Steelers and win the AFC North division title. Along with clinching the division title, Joe Flacco and company turned into a legitimate Super Bowl contender with a lockdown defense and a vastly improved offense.
Despite the Ravens finally breaking out of their shell under head coach John Harbaugh, Baltimore was faced with a lot of pressure to win and to win now. With only the New England Patriots being a serious threat to the Ravens, Baltimore had a good chance to compete for a Super Bowl appearance as they were able to make it all the way to the AFC Championship to face off against Tom Brady and company.
Unfortunately, the Ravens fell short against the Patriots and were sent home empty handed once again. Even though they failed to reach the Super Bowl, the Baltimore Ravens are without a doubt one of the elite teams in the league and will have another shot to contend for a title next season with relatively the same team intact.
One player that has received a lot of criticism for the team’s struggles to reach the Super Bowl over the past two seasons has been quarterback Joe Flacco. There is no doubt at this point in time that Flacco has proved his worth as a Pro Bowl-caliber QB in the NFL, but there are those that still don’t put him in the elite category.
Recently, Flacco was asked whether he thinks he ranks and he didn’t hesitate to say that he thinks he is the best QB in the NFL today. Bold words for someone that hasn’t won a Super Bowl or an NFL MVP like Peyton Manning, Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers.
