First Ten First Round Draft Picks

As originally suspected, the first pick of the St. Louis Rams went for the 2008 winner of the Heisman Trophy and quarterback Sam Bradford. This has made him the third Oklahoma Sooner player to be taken in the first draft pick. Amazingly, Bradford was nervous before the NFL Draft even began…he obviously had no reason to worry since he was the first pick of the night.

Followed by Sam Bradford, defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh from Nebraska was drafted by the Detroit Lions with the second pick of the night. The Lions needed a strong and solid player like Suh to join the team since they have marked NFL history as being the only team to actually lose 30 games within two seasons.

Defensive tackle, Gerald McCoy was taken with the third draft pick of the night to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. McCoy was a Sooner teammate of now Rams’ Bradford. With McCoy being third pick tonight, he has made the first time in history for all of the first three picks of the NFL draft to be from the same exact conference. The Bucs significantly need McCoy to help the improvement of their rushing defense since they came in last this past season.

Washington Redskins went on to choose offensive tackle Trent Williams from Oklahoma with their fourth pick, Kansas City Chiefs drafted safety Eric Berry from Tennessee with their fifth pick going for a safety rather than a tackle at this point in the draft, and the sixth pick of the night was by the Seattle Seahawks who went with offensive tackle Russell Okung from Oklahoma State.

Cornerback Joe Haden from Florida went to the Cleveland Browns for seventh draft pick, LB Rolando McClain went to the Oakland Raiders for the eight pick of the night with RB C.J. Spiller went to the Buffalo Bills for the ninth draft pick and was named ACC player of the year.

Jacksonville had the tenth draft pick of the night and drafted defensive lineman Tyson Alualu from Cal. Strong and solid defensive lineman with 60 tackles - the most in the entire conference of linemen.
