Oakland Raiders @ Kansas City Chiefs Sun. Jan. 2^nd 2010 1pm EST

The Oakland Raiders have been arguably one of the biggest surprise teams in the NFL this season, but even though they are a vastly improved team on both sides of the football this year, they will still be on the outside looking in on the playoffs after losing to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 16.

In Week 17, the up and coming Oakland Raiders will have a chance to make history as they could become the first team in NFL history to go undefeated within their division and fail to make the playoffs.

Obviously, this isn’t something to be proud of as they will still miss the playoffs, but going undefeated in the AFC West division is a great improved compared to season’s past.

Despite the Oakland Raiders pulling off the thrilling overtime victory over the Kansas City Chiefs back in Week 9, this time around Tom Cable and company will be playing against a much tougher squad that truly believes they can play with anyone in the AFC Conference this season.

One of the most intriguing parts of this AFC West showdown is seeing two of the best running teams in the league go head to head with Jamaal Charles leading the way for the Chiefs and Darren McFadden having a breakout year for the Raiders.

The Kansas City Chiefs will almost certainly be the favorites when the spread for this game is released, but I believe that the Oakland Raiders will ultimately come out on top as their running game and pass defense be the deciding factor.

Needless to say, this could turn out to be the game of the week even though the outcome really doesn’t matter for either squad in terms of the playoffs, although the Chiefs are playing for seed here.
