If you’ve been reading the newspapers, online blogs and news sources, or watching the news then it is obvious that they are supporting Duke to win the NCAA National Championship tonight. The public is right behind media outlets supporting Duke as well. Duke is up against Butler tonight at 9:21 p.m. Eastern Standard Time in Indianapolis, Indiana, at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Looking at the numerous online sports books, you will see that Duke has a large advantage over Butler and is favored to win the title game. More than 20,000 wagers so far have been placed on this national championship title game with more than half of the public choosing the Duke Blue Devils. Although Duke is hoping to achieve their fourth NCAA title, this is Butler’s first national championship title game in school history.
The Duke Blue Devils have been the favorite for this game and that’s the sole reason for numbers jumping overnight - soaring to show the public’s gratitude toward the team with wagers still being placed.
Let’s take a look at some comparisons of the two teams:
Duke currently sits 5-0 in the tournament against the spread while covering in every game. Butler was unable to cover in one of their tournament games.
As for non-conference opponents, the Duke Blue Devils are 13-6 ATS while the Butler Bulldogs are 26-14 ATS within the past 3 years.
The Blue Devils are 12-5 ATS with teams that permit a below average of 64 points per game in the season and the Bulldogs are 120-86 ATS since 1997 for the permit of 60 points or less.
The last time these two teams were up against each other was January 30, 2003, where Butler lost to Duke with a total score of 80-60. Can they win this time or will Duke obtain its fourth NCAA title?
The game does seem to be sort of a mismatch since Duke is a clear win with their defense being better or at least equal and their offense being much better in addition to shooting and size advantage. The Bulldogs are simply going to have to get some new plays out to head up to the Blue Devils.
Hurry up and get your bets placed before the game tonight…my money is on Duke – what about yours?
