Tonight is Game 6 of the 2010 ALCS. The Texas Rangers currently lead 3-2 over the New York Yankees and look to close this Championship out tonight while the Yankees will look to even the series making Game 7 the deciding factor on Saturday night.
The Rangers will look to Colby Lewis to take them home. For the postseason, Lewis is 1-0 with an ERA of 1.69 for his two playoff starts with the win being from NLCS Game 2 against the Yankees, 7-2. He allowed just two runs in 5 2/3 innings for that game. Then in the ALDS against the Tampa Bay Rays, in Game 3, he allowed no runs over five frames. Right now, the Rangers seem pretty confident in what Lewis can do for them but they also know that if he can’t bring it home for them that Cliff Lee can on Saturday night.
The Yankees will look to Phil Hughes to even up this NLCS. He is 0-1 due to losing his first postseason start, which was ALCS Game 2 in which he allowed seven runs on 10 hits over four innings. He’ll need to have a better night than that if he plans to achieve a tie for the series, which is something he can do if he looks back in his breakout season when he won 18 games.
As for a batting match-up, Rangers’ Josh Hamilton has hit four homers this postseason and will summon his inner ability to add more home runs to that postseason number tonight. He also has seven RBI’s, which is the most of his team, with Bengie Molina close behind with five RBI’s and one home run. Hamilton is batting a .316 while Molina is batting a .417. And despite leaving Game 5 early due to feeling tightness in his hamstring, Nelson Cruz will be in the lineup for tonight’s game.
Robinson Cano has hit four home runs for the Yankees along with five RBI’s this postseason with a batting average of .421. Curtis Granderson has three RBI’s and a single home run with a batting average of .333.
The match-up will be tough tonight but if Hughes has another NLCS Game 2 then the Rangers are taking this baby home and heading into the World Series!
