The Dallas Cowboys had a tremendous amount of pressure on them to get back on track in Week 2 against the rival San Francisco 49ers after dropping the ball against the New York Jets in their season opener. With Pro Bowl quarterback Tony Romo becoming public enemy #1 in Dallas after his collapse in the fourth quarter against the Jets, the Cowboys were hoping to get a big game out of him in Week 2 and that they did, but it may have come at a great cost to the team.
In Week 2, the Dallas Cowboys were trailing against the San Francisco 49ers in the Bay Area for the majority of the contest and looked like they were headed to a potentially devastating 0-2 start to the season. Not only did the Cowboys seem towards another loss in a game they should’ve won, but quarterback Tony Romo went down with what was diagnosed as a broken rib.
This injury was just another blow to one of the most successful franchises in the NFL, but it did turn out to be just what Romo needed to turn it on and show his heart in the clutch. As a result, Romo led the Cowboys to victory over the 49ers, but they may have suffered some serious injuries that could affect them in the coming weeks.
Along with Tony Romo having a broken rib and a punctured lung, the Cowboys will also have to deal with Pro Bowl wide receiver Mile Austin’s hamstring injury which will probably keep him out until mid-October. This injury to Austin alone might be enough to derail this season for the Cowboys as head coach Jason Garrett also has his second best wideout in Dez Bryant out with injury.
It will be interesting to see how the Dallas Cowboys can compete against the 2-0 division rival Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football in Week 3 with all these injuries on offense.
