Tesla Model S Bursts Into Flames During Test Drive

17 August 2025

The news isn't a huge surprise as hacker Jason Hughes discovered as early as March that Tesla was planning a P100D option for the cars.

A Tesla Model S reportedly burst into flames during a test drive in western France, in the latest in a series of risky incidents related to the all-electric carmaker. The new 60 starts from £53,400, but still manages a 248-mile range, a top speed of 130mph and comes equipped with Tesla's autopilot software.

More updates are on the way for the Tesla Model S following the announcement of the 60 and 60D models, with a new range-topper called the P100D being confirmed via European Union type approval. Despite getting a wattage boost, the P100D isn't designed with more power in mind - its primary concern will be to extend range.

The details show that authorities have approved 100D and 100X models for Tesla, suggesting that the long-rumoured 100kWh battery pack could hit the market soon.

It has been estimated that the larger battery pack will allow the Tesla Model S to go for about 300miles on a single charge.

Third French burqini ban after clashes in Corsica
A village in Corsica has banned "burkinis" following a beach fight between North African families and local youths. Islamic dress has always been a hot-button issue in France , where the full-face veil is banned in public places.

This isn't the first hint there has been of new 100 kWh battery options either.

Now that Tesla has killed off the 85-kWh battery this is actually pretty big news.

Additionally, he believes that the range of Model S and Model X base models will be 300 miles. Auto owners prefer getting good battery life so they don't have to deal with the trouble of charging over and over again. Some have said the 100D's range could be as high as 380 miles. Kenteken made a decision to do some searching of this open database and discovered that there are, in fact, references to approval for a "100D" and a "100x". The trick is the vehicle actually comes with a 75 kWh battery, but it is restricted to 60 kWh by the car's software.

Tesla should be looking to meet current orders and then look to roll out new variants. It recently raised funds to meet the growing demand for Model 3 and for now that should be Tesla's foremost priority.
