Uruguay advanced to the 2010 World Cup quarter finals this past Saturday when they won the match against South Korea with the final score being in their favor 2-1. Uruguay will now face Ghana in the quarter finals this Friday in Johannesburg.
However, someone won’t be able to make the lineup and make an appearance on the field for this match on Friday. One of the central defenders for Uruguay will not find his name on the roster – Diego Godin. It was actually the game against South Korea, the second round of the match, which sparked the thigh injury for Godin.
The starting lineup for Friday’s quarter final was announced earlier Wednesday, which showed Mauricio Victorino the replacement for Godin. Coach Oscar Tabarez didn’t include Godin because he doesn’t feel that the player is 100% recovered and ready to give it his all in a match.
As for Victorino, he was the likely replacement as he entered the match against South Korea this past Saturday at halftime when he filled in for Godin after suffering his thigh injury.
That isn’t the only change in this week’s lineup. In addition, Coach Tabarez is also making a strategic change to the lineup and replacing Alvaro Pereira with midfielder Alvaro Fernandez.
Whoever wins this quarter final on Friday will play the winner of the Brazil vs. Netherlands match in the semi finals. As for right now, Uruguay remains to be a favorite for the quarter final match against Ghana so you will definitely want to get your bets placed soon.
The lineup for Uruguay for the quarter finals Friday include Alvaro Fernandez, Mauricio Victorino, Fernando Muslera, Jorge Fucile, Diego Lugano, Diego Forlan, Egidio Arevalo, Maximiliano Pereira, Luis Suarez, Edinson Cavani and Diego Perez.
