The World Cup has been going on for a few weeks now and we have finally reached the quarter finals of the tournament. So, what teams made it and whom did they beat out to get there? Let’s take a look.
One of the latest finalists to move into the quarter finals was Ghana. Ghana was able to successfully beat out the USA team this past Saturday evening. They couldn’t have done it without the extra time, of course, but they still beat out the USA 2-1. Ghana will find themselves up against Uruguay in the quarter finals on July 2 in Johannesburg. Uruguay was able to successfully beat out South Korea on Saturday 2-1 to advance.
Spain will also be another contender in this year’s quarter finals as they beat out Portugal 1-0. Their opponents this year will be Paraguay, who advanced by winning against Japan 5-3. They will go head-to-head in Johannesburg on Saturday, July 3.
Monday night, Brazil was able to defeat Chile in order to advance to the next round of the 2010 World Cup. Brazil (pictured), five time champions who have also reached the World Cup quarter finals every single time since 1990, will go up against the Netherlands on Friday, July 2, in Nelson Mandela Bay at Port Elizabeth. The Netherlands just advanced to the quarter finals earlier Monday by defeating Slovakia 2-1.
Sunday, Germany won over England 4-1 and advanced to this year’s quarter finals. Germany has made it to the quarter finals every single time since 1954. Saturday, July 3, Germany will find themselves going up against Argentina, who defeated Mexico Sunday 3-1, in Cape Town.
What teams do you think will win and advance to the semi-finals? Be sure to place your bets and get in on the action with the 2010 World Cup.
