In lieu of recent allegations made against the German team for having what many have claimed to have been an unfair advantage is using the official World Cup ball for practice, Adidas has come out to deny the validity of any such statements and to testify to the fairness for all in the World Cup competition.
The ball in question was released last December 4th and premiered in Munich, thus helping to fuel the claim that Germans have had far longer to practice with the official ball than any other global team. At that time, however, the Munich competition where the World Cup’s official ball debuted had been attended by players from around the world, and since then the ball has been used in global competitions ranging from FIFA’s Club World Championship in Qatar to the matches being held in South Africa today. The opening game of the World Cup for the US team is just a few days away – it is just right around the corner. Last week, we reported that forward Jozy Altidore sustained a sprain to his ankle during Wednesday’s practice and was required to stop training immediately. He had been expected to watch the team practice for the World Cup open from the sidelines.
However, six days later after spraining his ankle, Altidore is back with the US team and has resumed full training exercises. Therefore, he will be able to participate in the World Cup and will not have to watch unhappily from the sidelines. He has been participating in some individual training sessions since late last week. Continue Reading…
We just had a scare earlier this week for US World Cup team member Jozy Altidore. Now, it seems that there is another scare in the works for an England team member and captain Rio Ferdinand.
England was participating in a training session on Thursday, which was their first session. Just a few minutes before the end of the session, Rio Ferdinand injured his left knee and was taken to the hospital immediately to have a scan of his knee completed. Apparently, the injury occurred with the England captain going into a tackle, which resulted in a bad fall. Continue Reading…
The United States World Cup team made it to South Africa just a few days ago and already they have an injured player – just nine days prior to the commencement the team’s opening game. Starting forward for the U.S. team and one of the youngest players for the U.S. team, Jozy Altidore from Villareal suffered a mild sprain injury to his ankle during practice this past Wednesday.
20-year-old Altidore did not participate in Thursday’s practice with the team and his status is considered to be on a day-to-day basis right now. However, Altidore was taken to the hospital and admitted for X-Rays. The X-Rays turned out to be negative, though. Since the X-Rays were negative, it seems that Altidore just has a mild sprain to his ankle. Continue Reading…
Coach Bob Bradley for the United States World Cup team made the final cuts to the 30-man roster last week and narrowed it down to the final 23-man roster.
Edson Buddle is one of the players that made the final cut and was in complete disbelief. If you would have asked him a couple months ago if he thought he would even be a candidate for the World Cup, he would have said no. Now, that the truth is right in front of him, it’s still hard for him to believe. Continue Reading…
The 2010 World Cup is rapidly approaching and the deadline for all the 32 teams participating in the World Cup this year in South Africa are required to have their final roster of 23 men in by 1 June. The United States have finalized their team roster by making the cut of seven men from the initial 30 man rosters.
Some of the men that made the cut for the final roster were actually considered long shots. Two forwards that will gain huge recognition by making the cut are Herculez Gomez, who was honored as the Mexican League’s leading scorer, and Edson Buddle, who is the leading scorer with the Los Angeles Galaxy in Major League Soccer. These two were once considered long shots mainly due to the fact that neither of them have ever participated in a World Cup event. Continue Reading…
Earlier this week, the announcements flowed in like crazy disclosing the 30 men that had made it on the preliminary roster for all 32 World Cup Teams. There were many surprises on the list in regards to players that made it as well as players that did not make the preliminary roster this week.
One of the largest surprises for the USA Team was a player that did not make the preliminary 30-man roster. Charles Davies who has shown improvement since his car accident that nearly killed him last October; however, the coach didn’t feel that he was quite ready to go to the World Cup and compete so heavily. This Major League Soccer season will be a season without David Beckham. More than likely, Beckham will not be able to resume playing until sometime this November more than likely. He originally anticipated on returning in September since his recovery was anticipated to take about six months but his recovery is roughly two months behind hence the now estimated November return.
