After almost two months of shortened NBA season in the books, the consensus around the league and among NBA analysts is that the Miami Heat is the best team in the league hands down. With LeBron James playing at an MVP level once again and the team really starting to come together, there seems to be no stopping the Heat. Even though the Heat are cruising right now, president Pat Riley would love to make a trade before the NBA trade deadline (March 15) to acquire a big man and center Chris Kaman seems to be the number one target for Miami. After the NBA lockout officially ended and before the current NBA season got underway, the New Orleans Hornets were involved in a blockbuster trade with the Los Angeles Clippers that drastically changed the struggling NBA franchise. Even though the Hornets were arguably one of the better teams in the league a few years ago, the team has slowly slipped into mediocrity and is no longer considered a threat in the Western Conference.
Not only did the Hornets trade away the face of the franchise and arguably one of the league’s elite point guards in Chris Paul to the Clippers, but they may have gotten some bad eggs in return. Shooting guard Eric Gordon was considered to be a rising star in the NBA last season with the Clippers and arguably the best player the Hornets received in return for Paul, but he just hasn’t been able to stay healthy and has a lot of people believing that this trade has turned out to be an absolute bust for New Orleans. With the NBA trade deadline about a month away (March 15), the teams around the league looking for upgrades in certain positions or trying to add the missing piece to the championship puzzle will be working the phones to try and get something done via trade. One big-name that has been talked about a lot recently in terms of possibly being on the trade block is two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash of the Phoenix Suns. Continue Reading…
#1 Miami Heat (21-7)
As long as the Big 3 in South Beach stay healthy from here on out, there will be no stopping the Miami Heat from reaching the NBA Finals for a second straight season. A big test will come on Monday night when the Heat face the Milwaukee Bucks for the third time this season and will try to avoid a three-game losing streak against Brandon Jennings and company. This season the New York Knicks have gone from a legitimate NBA title contender before the season began to arguably the most disappointing team in the league well into February. With the addition of free agent signees Baron Davis and Tyson Chandler alongside stars Amare Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony, the consensus around the league was that the Knicks would be a serious force to be reckoned with and a team to watch in the Eastern Conference. This shortened season in the NBA has been all about trade rumors involving Dwight Howard, the Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder as the favorites and the fall of veteran teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics. With all this going on in the league, the one team that has been able to fly under the radar and do well in the process is the San Antonio Spurs. Continue Reading…
Over the past week or so, the New York Knicks have seen Carmelo Anthony go down with a groin injury (1 to 2 weeks) and Amare Stoudemire suffer the sudden death of his brother (returns Monday). This couldn’t have happen at a worse time for the Knicks as New York has struggled all season long and as a result their head coach Mike D’Antoni’s job has been on the line. Continue Reading…
One of the most talked about teams in the NBA this season has been the Los Angeles Lakers. With the storied franchise losing arguably the greatest NBA head coach of all-time in Phil Jackson to retirement and trading away reigning Sixth Man of the Year Lamar Odom (Dallas Mavericks) for virtually nothing (trade exception), Kobe Bryant and company have struggled to get back to form this season as one of the best teams in the NBA. The one big-name player that has been mentioned in almost every blockbuster trade scenario in the NBA this season has been none other than Dwight Howard of the Orlando Magic. With Howard believing that he doesn’t have a chance to win a championship in Orlando and would love to play in a bigger market, the best center in the NBA today would like to be traded before the NBA trade deadline on March 15.
