There are only four teams left in the hunt for the National Championship in the 2011 NCAA Tournament as the UConn Huskies (3), Kentucky Wildcats (4), VCU Rams (11) and the Butler Bulldogs (8) have advanced to the Final Four. Even though these four teams are the last left standing in college basketball, they were able to get here without a fight from their opponents and arguably one of the most anticipated battles in the elite eight was when Kemba Walker’s UConn Huskies went up against Derrick Williams’ Arizona Wildcats.
As one of the biggest upsets of the 2011 NCAA Tournament, the Arizona Wildcats were able get the best of the defending NCAA champion Duke Blue Devils. There was no question up until the time the Blue Devils took on the Wildcats, that Coach K’s squad were more than capable of going the distance once again and repeating as NCAA champions, but they fell short when the Wildcats just dominated them in the second half.
In the next round the UConn Huskies in the Arizona Wildcats went toe to toe in what was arguably the most anticipated matchup in the Elite Eight. Even though Kemba Walker is considered to be the best all-around player in college basketball coming into this head-to-head matchup with the Arizona Wildcats, big man Derrick Williams had made a case as the best player with his unbelievable performance against the Duke Blue Devils.
Unfortunately, despite another solid performance by the Arizona Wildcats and Derrick Williams in the elite eight, the UConn Huskies were able come out on top as they showed their resilience once again in late game situations. With yet another win in the 2011 NCAA Tournament, the Huskies have proven that they are without a doubt the best team left in this tournament and could be on the way to another National Championship in the Jim Calhoun era.
