UConn Huskies (3) vs. Butler Bulldogs (8) Mon. April 4, 2011 9:23 p.m. EST
The 2011 NCAA Tournament has been a thrilling roller coaster ride once again this season in college basketball, but now the tourney has come down to just two teams as the underdog Butler Bulldogs (8) are set to take on Kemba Walker and the UConn Huskies (3) in the NCAA National Championship game in Houston, Texas.
Even though the UConn Huskies (3) are the only storied college basketball program in this NCAA National Championship game and considered the early favorites, the Butler Bulldogs (8) are more than worthy opponents for Jim Calhoun’s squad as they have been able to defy the odds for the second straight year and reach the title game for their second shot at glory in the NCAA Tournament.
The one big difference in this game that I believe will be what puts the UConn Huskies (3) over the top is Player of the Year candidate Kemba Walker. As arguably the best all-around player in the country, Walker has the ability to single handedly take over a basketball game and dominate the competition. Even though Walker didn’t have his best game shooting against the Kentucky Wildcats in the Final Four hitting just six of 15 from the floor, the Huskies leading scorer will almost certainly be ready to win an NCAA title on Monday night as the Bulldogs will have no answer for him.
Along with Kemba Walker, the UConn Huskies also have Jeremy Lamb who is quickly turning into one of the best players of the country despite being in Walker’s shadow throughout the 2011 NCAA Tournament. With Lamb being a solid second option for the Huskies, the Bulldogs will not be able to keep up in my opinion and will prove to be no contest for the best college basketball team in the country.
