Now that the NFL playoffs has come down to just four teams (Patriots, Giants, 49ers and Ravens), the league and NFL fans around the country have been talking about which two teams are destined to face off on Super Bowl Sunday in Indianapolis on Feb. 5. There is no question that any possible matchup is likely with all four teams worthy of advancing and becoming Super Bowl champions, but I believe the two teams to beat and will be the teams to represent their conference in the big game will be the San Francisco 49ers and the New England Patriots.
Perhaps the most noticeable aspect of the AFC and NFC Championship games is that defense has played big part of three of the four team’s success up to this point in the NFL season and playoffs. The Baltimore Ravens, New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers wouldn’t have gotten this far without being solid on the defensive side of the football this season, but the New England Patriots are the one exception with arguably one of the worst defenses in the NFL this year.
Despite having an awful defense, two-time NFL MVP quarterback Tom Brady has had this Patriots’ offense playing so well that opposing teams find it nearing impossible to keep up. A perfect example of this was against Tim Tebow’s Denver Broncos in the AFC Divisional round. This week I believe the Patriots will advance to yet another Super Bowl by simply outscoring the Ravens at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro.
As for the San Francisco 49ers, Jim Harbaugh’s squad will find it hard to get on the scoreboard against the resurgent New York Giants, but I believe they are the better all-around team right now with one of the best playoff performances of all-time last week against the New Orleans Saints.
So my Super Bowl prediction has the San Francisco 49ers and the New England Patriots going at it in a classic showdown between a lockdown defense and a potent offense. The Patriots will put up a fight, but the 49ers should prevail in my opinion.
