After an immensely successful career in the NBA, Shaquille O’Neal decided to announce his retirement before last season as he know that his body would no longer holdup through the rigors of an 82-game season and a potential playoff run.
With Shaq coming to this realization, the Big Aristotle chose to become an NBA analyst much like many other former superstars with personalities like Charles Barkley and Magic Johnson. So far, Shaq’s career off the floor has been going as planned with a good thing going with TNT.
As of right now, Shaq has no intentions of making a comeback with an NBA team and for good reason considering the way he left with an Achilles injury he suffered by walking up for the floor. There’s no question the four-time NBA champion knows that his career on the floor is over, but recent news has one of the greatest NBA centers of all-time potentially making a short-lived comeback elsewhere.
Reportedly, Shaq may make an appearance on the basketball court one or two more times in the Mexico. Former NBA star Dennis Rodman made a similar move back in 2004 making appearances for Fuerza Regia. This is the same team that has extended an offer to Shaq to play a couple of games.
It remains to be seen whether or not Shaq will take the offer. No details have been released in terms of compensation or how Shaq would benefit rather than lacing up his sneakers once more. The Mexican team has given Shaq about a week to accept or decline the offer.
With Shaq’s personality and willingness to do just about anything for a laugh, it won’t be a surprise to see the future Hall of Famer head to Mexico and put on a show.
