One of the most intriguing free agents in the NBA this summer will be none other than point guard sensation Jeremy Lin of the New York Knicks. With Lin reaching superstardom during his time in the Big Apple this year, the up-and-coming floor general will get a lot of interest around the league this summer.
There’s no question that some drastic changes will be made in the Knicks organization in the offseason with the team’s future uncertain to say the least in terms of contending for an NBA title in the near future. With Amar’e Stoudemire’s future with the team up in the air at this point as the Knicks’ front office may very well look to trade the All-Star forward, there’s no telling what moves will be made by the team as they obviously need to some upgrades in different positions, but changes are bound to be made.
One of the top priorities in the offseason for the Knicks is at the point guard position. The Knicks would like to re-sign Lin to a long-term deal, but there are plenty of other options out there like Deron Williams (Brooklyn Nets) and Steve Nash (Phoenix Suns).
As a restricted free agent, the Knicks will have the opportunity to top any offer sheet given to Lin. Whether or not the team is willing to pay more than other teams are willing to offer remains to be seen at this point.
Apparently, Lin’s agent believes that the Knicks retaining the point guard isn’t a guarantee. Usually, restricted free agents tend to stay with their current teams, but Lin might turn out to be the exception.
There will be plenty of teams this summer looking for an upgrade at the point guard position and the added revenue, and attention that Lin brings to the table. With that being said, the Knicks will have some stiff competition with teams going after Lin and that are willing to pay a high price.
