The Dwight Howard saga continues with the Orlando Magic reluctant to trade the superstar center with an inability to get equal value in return.
Apparently, the Magic’s front office has grown tired of looking for the right trade assets in return for Howard and are prepared to make one last pitch to the perennial All-Star in order to keep him in Orlando.
Obviously, the chances of Howard changing his stance for the millionth time are slim to none at this point, but the Magic brass will give it another shot. GM Rob Hennigan will fly to Los Angeles, where Howard is rehabbing from back surgery, to talk to the superstar in an effort to get him to retract the trade demand.
Howard has made it abundantly clear over the last month or so that he wants out of Orlando. The initial destination requested by Howard was with the Brooklyn Nets. A deal was talked about with the Nets for quite some time, but after Brooklyn re-signed Brook Lopez, the Nets were no longer a possibility.
Shortly after the Nets were knocked out of the running for Howard, the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets became the frontrunners. The Los Angeles seemed to be the likely destination for Howard, but the trade never came to fruition.
It is uncertain how intent the Lakers are about pursuing Howard from here on out with the recent news of the Magic holding onto the superstar center. There’s no telling how serious Orlando is about the most recent statement about Howard, but it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see the team turnaround and trade Howard within the next few days with teams realizing they’ll lose out on the league’s best center if this continues.
