Memphis Grizzlies at San Antonio Spurs Weds. April 20, 2011 8:30 p.m. EST
The biggest shock in the first round of the NBA playoffs so far has been the eighth seeded Memphis Grizzlies going into Texas and upsetting the number one seeded San Antonio Spurs. Even though many people anticipated the Grizzlies being one of the toughest teams to beat in the Western Conference playoffs, no one thought they would be able to beat the Spurs in Game 1 the way they did.
One of the main reasons for the Spurs struggles against the Grizzlies in Game 1 was the fact they were without arguably their best all-around player in shooting guard Manu Ginobili. With Ginobili’s status being uncertain heading into the playoffs, the consensus was that the Spurs might struggle, but not enough to lose to the Grizzlies right out of the gate.
Even though Tim Duncan was seemingly able to turn back the clock by having a solid performance with 16 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks, the Spurs were unable to get the best of a motivated and very talented Grizzlies squad.
In Game 2, the San Antonio Spurs will look to get back on track with a win over the Memphis Grizzlies before the series shifts to Tennessee. If the Spurs can’t get the win in Game 2, they will be in some serious trouble moving forward as it will be doubtful at best that they will be able to win this series.
As of right now, the San Antonio Spurs are the favorites to come out on top in Game 2 with a -8.5 point spread. Despite the fact that the Spurs will almost certainly play better in Game 2, I believe the Grizzlies have been underestimated here and won’t be going down without a fight.
Take the Grizzlies at +8.5
