The Oklahoma City Thunder may have drawn first blood in the 2012 NBA Finals with a thrilling win on their home floor at Chesapeake Energy Arena, but now the series has taken a turn for the worst for reigning NBA scoring champion Kevin Durant and company with the Miami Heat winning Game 2 and Game 3.
With the NBA Finals format of 2-3-2, the Thunder’s home court advantage was taken away by the Heat with a loss in Game 2. Now that the series is in Miami for the next three games, including Game 3, Oklahoma City must find a way to win at least one game in South Beach in order to send the series back to Chesapeake Energy Arena for Game 6 and or Game 7.
Coming into Game 3 in Miami, the Heat were looking to take a commanding 2-1 series lead. With that kind of lead this early in the series and two more games to be played in South Beach, LeBron James and company would have the clear advantage moving forward.
Fortunately for Erik Spoelstra’s squad, Miami were as advertised in Game 3 with LeBron leading the way with a game-high 29 points and 14 rebounds. Durant did his best to counter LeBron’s impressive performance with a team-high 25 points, but the Heat were clearly the better team on Sunday night and have now put the pressure squarely on the shoulders of the Thunder players after a 91-85 victory.
Sixth Man of the Year, James Harden, was a total disappointment in Game 3 for the Thunder with a horrible performance off the bench with nine points on 2-of-10 shooting. Not only was Harden ineffective shooting from inside the painted area, but he was worse from beyond the arc missing all four three-point attempts.
Needless to say, the Thunder must go back to the drawing board and figure out a way to bounce back in Game 4 in order to even up the series at 2-2.
