After an impressive victory in Game 1 of the NBA Finals over the Miami Heat, the Oklahoma City Thunder proved that they were more than deserving to represent the Western Conference in an effort to win the first NBA title in franchise history. Despite taking the series lead (1-0), Game 2 was another beast altogether with the Heat threatening to take over home court advantage with the next three games being played in South Beach.
Right out of the gate the Heat took control of Game 2 by dominating the first quarter. With a 12-point lead heading into the second quarter, LeBron James and company were looking like the better team on Thursday night with a great chance of evening up the series at one game apiece. Despite the commanding lead and maintaining that lead into halftime, the Thunder have been an extremely efficient team on their home floor throughout the NBA playoffs without a single loss in front of the diehard fans at Chesapeake Energy Arena.
Even though Oklahoma City was flawless at home with consistently solid performances from three-time scoring champion Kevin Durant, up-and-coming point guard Russell Westbrook and reigning Sixth Man of the Year James Harden, the Thunder dominance on their home floor came to an end on Thursday with the Heat coming out on top, 100-96.
Miami may have had a tight grip on the outcome of this game throughout the majority of the contest, but Oklahoma City threatened to make another brilliant comeback in the closing minutes. The Thunder did fall short, but continued to show that they can beat the Heat in this series.
Durant and LeBron finished with a game-high 32 points. Westbrook added 27 and Dwyane Wade scored 20. Harden led the way off the bench as usual for the Thunder with 21 and Shane Battier had another solid performance with 17 points and 5-for-7 from beyond the arc.
The series shifts to Miami for the next three games with the Heat potentially closing out the series in Game 5 on their home floor in South Beach.
